County dog parks near the city

Orange County Parks and Recreation runs these dog parks just outside city limits:

  • Downey Park, 10107 Flowers Ave., has an off-leash dog park along with a splash playground, pickleball courts and an inclusive playground. Open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in summer and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in winter, the county says.

Walking with your dog

  • City parks. City park rules bar pets from benches, drinking fountains and picnic tables, except inside fenced off-leash areas, and keep pets out of city lakes unless a lake is posted for swimming, the city’s park rules say. Feeding wildlife is prohibited.
  • County trails. On Orange County’s paved trails, including the Cady Way Trail, pets must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet and owners must clean up after them; trails are open sunrise to sunset, the county says. More routes are on our walking and biking trails guide.
  • Lake Eola. The Orlando Farmers Market at Lake Eola on Sundays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., is dog friendly, its listing on the Thornton Park District calendar says.

The rules

  • Leash and animal laws. Orange County Animal Services enforces the county’s animal rules in Chapter 5 of the Orange County Code. City rules, including the park rules, are in the Orlando City Code.
  • No registration, but rabies shots. There is no pet registration mandated in the area, and a rabies vaccination is required for pets 4 months and older, Orange County Animal Services says.
  • Clean up. Bag dispensers and waste bins are at the city’s dog parks.

Dog events
