Every public school in Orlando belongs to Orange County Public Schools (OCPS), the countywide district. The city has no school system of its own. The district’s main number is 407-317-3200, and its headquarters is at 445 W. Amelia St., downtown.

About 59 public schools sit inside Orlando city limits, enrolling about 46,700 students in 2024-25, our check of the federal school directory against Census Bureau city boundaries found. That count includes 31 elementary schools, nine middle schools, 11 schools that run through eighth grade and eight high schools, among them charter schools. Many more schools carry an Orlando mailing address but sit in unincorporated Orange County.

Other large high schools with Orlando addresses, including Colonial, Cypress Creek, Oak Ridge, Timber Creek, University and Olympia, lie outside city limits but serve many Orlando families. Attendance zones follow the street address, not the city line, so always confirm with Find My School.

Days people often ask about:

• Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11: school is open. It is not on the calendar as a holiday.
• Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3: school is open.
• Halloween falls on a Saturday this year.
• Wednesdays: school is in session but lets out an hour early; most elementary schools dismiss at 2 p.m. instead of 3 p.m. Check your school’s times in the district’s 2026-27 bell times (PDF).
• Storms: if severe weather closes schools, the district announces it on ocps.net. Closed days may be made up on Feb. 15, April 23, Nov. 23 and Nov. 24, in that order, after the superintendent uses other options such as longer Wednesdays.

Charter and private schools set their own calendars, so check with the school.

Enrolling a student

Ratings and report cards

Florida grades every public school A to F each summer, based mostly on state test results. The Florida Department of Education’s school grades page publishes the grades, and its school report cards show test scores, graduation rates and spending school by school. The school board

The Orange County School Board sets the budget, attendance zones and calendar. Members are elected by district; find yours on the district’s board member map. The meeting schedule lists every regular meeting, and agendas go up on BoardDocs before each one.
