Which utility is yours?
Orange County’s power comes mainly from two utilities. In the state Public Service Commission’s storm report of Nov. 11, 2022, the latest county-by-county count we found:
| Utility | Orange County accounts |
|---|---|
| Duke Energy | 411,597 |
| OUC (Orlando Utilities Commission) | 219,199 |
| City of Winter Park | 15,445 |
| Reedy Creek | 120 |
| Florida Power & Light | 10 |
Neither utility’s service area follows the city line exactly, and many homes with an Orlando mailing address are in unincorporated Orange County. Check the name on your bill. New in town? Our moving guide has the start-service links for both.
Reporting an OUC outage
OUC gives three ways to report:
- Text OUT to 69682 (myOUC). You also get updates on the cause and estimated restoration time.
- Online: log in to your myOUC account and choose “Outages & Service Problems.” You can check an outage’s status there too.
- Phone: the 24-hour line, 407-423-9018.
The OUC outage map shows the size and location of each outage and estimated restoration times.
Flickering lights in a storm are normal, OUC says: its grid isolates damaged circuits to keep outages small, so lights may dim or blink briefly during or after bad weather.
Water problems such as a main break or a missing meter lid also go to OUC customer service, 24/7, at 407-423-9018.
Reporting a Duke Energy outage
Text OUT to 57801, report it on Duke Energy’s outages page or call 800-228-8485. The Duke outage map shows current outages, customers affected and estimated restoration times.
Downed lines, trees and streetlights
- Downed line: stay away and assume it is live. Call 911 if anyone is in danger, then your utility.
- Tree in the lines: OUC asks customers to report it right away with its tree trimming request or by phone at 407-423-9018.
- Streetlight out: report it to OUC with its streetlight form; OUC checks whether it maintains the light. The city also takes reports on its Report a Problem page.
Before a storm
Charge phones, sign up for your utility’s text alerts and bookmark its outage map. After a storm, report yard debris to the city with its storm debris form; our trash guide has the rules.
